What are the Limitless™ switches and associated products?

Limitless™ limit switches:
WGLA Series
WLSA Series
Limitless™ monitor/receiver:
WPMM Series - panel mount monitor
WR Series - DIN-ount receiver
Limitless™ accessories:
Antennas - WAN Series
Extension cables - WCA Series
Antenna mounting options - WAM Series

What wireless radio is used? Why was it chosen?

802.15.4 (2.4 GHz) was chosen as it is license-free, globally acceptable, and requires low power consumption.

What is the signal range between the Limitless™ switch and Limitless™ monitor/receiver?

Approximately 1000 ft [305 m] line of sight with 2.1 dBi antenna in United States and Canada. Due to signal restrictions in the European Union and Australia, the range is reduced to approximately 250 meters [820 ft]. The range in a particular application will be dependent on the topology, obstructions, antennas, and cables.

Is the battery replaceable? is it commercially available?

Yes, it is replaceable and commercially available. The WGLS and WHDLS battery is manufactured by Uniwell, part number DEV-10-0009.

What is the Limitless™ switch battery life?

Battery life is estimated between 1 ½ to 2 ½ years, dependant primarily on the functionality required and signal frequency. A battery life reference guide (available at www.honeywell.com/sensing) was developed to provide a battery life estimate based on the application condition/requirements (i.e., actuation rate, temperature, etc.).

Is there indication when the battery is low or the signal between the Limitless™ switch and Limitless™ monitor/receiver is lost?

Yes, indicated with an LED and/or output signal.

Will external RF sources affect the RF signal quality of a Limitless™ device?

Yes, it is possible. If an external source (such as wi-fi, microwaves, another 2.4GHz radio) is in very close proximity to the Limitless™ device, it might have a limited effect on the Limitless™ device's RF signal. The actual effect on the Limitless™ device will be dependent on the external source intensity and its proximity to the Limitless™ device.

What are the Limitless™ monitor/receiver output options?

- Panel mount monitor: Visual, audible (buzzer), NPN output
- DIN mount receiver: Visual, NPN/PNP

How loud is the buzzer?

~85dB @ 2 feet, WPMM Series only

Can more than one Limitless™ switch be connected to one Limitless™ monitor/receiver?

Yes, up to 16 individual Limitless™ switches can have individual address paired to one Limitless™ monitor/receiver. However specific to the WPMM monitor, there will be no differentiation of outputs (visual, audible or NPN state change) between the Limitless™ switches (up to 16) as there is only one output that all Limitless™ switches will be sharing. The DIN-mount receiver will have a separate output (up to 14) for each Limitless™ switch.

Can more than one Limitless™ monitor/receiver be used in close physical proximity with another?

Yes, the separation distance is greater than 20 cm [7.87 in]. The wireless monitor/receiver uses a unique security key for each wireless switch.

How are the Limitless™ switches paired to communicate with the Limitless™ monitor/receiver module?

The pairing of a Limitless™ switch with a Limitless™ monitor/receiver is initiated by pressing a tactile switch on Limitless™ monitor/receiver. Then, within a 30 second timeframe, a tactile switch inside the wireless switch needs to be depressed for one second.

If the battery dies in the Limitless™ switch, or there is a loss of power to the Limitless™ monitor/receiver, do I need to conduct pairing again?

No, the pairing remains intact.

How are diagnostics communicated and facilitated on the Limitless™ monitor and receiver?

Three LEDs on the Limitless™ monitor along with the buzzer and multiple LEDs on the receiver provide indication of correct start-up, low battery, lost antenna signal, purged switch, etc. The detail of these features is included with the Installation Instructions for the Limitless™ monitor or receiver and are available at www.honeywell.com/sensing.

What level of communication security is there?

The security techniques are specified in the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. In short, the Limitless™ monitor/receiver pairs with a single wireless switch using the same 16-bit PAN (network) ID, same 16-bit address, and the same 128-bit security key.

Can any 2.4 GHz antenna be used?

No, only approved antennas are to be used with the internal radio of both the Limitless™ switch and Limitless™ monitor/receiver.

What antenna and gain options are going to be offered?

- 2.1 dBi gain: direct mount to switch; straight or tilt & swivel design
- Up to 9.0 dBi gain: remote mount w/mounting bracket, magnetic mount, or adhesive for flat surfaces

Will rain, sleet, smoke, fog, snow, or ice affect the RF signal?

Minimal effect. Estimate a ~25 ft reduction. However, if snow and/or ice accumulate on an antenna, it may significantly impact the performance of antenna. Care should be taken to prevent accumulation.

Will the RF signal be affected by electrical interference?

The circuitry has been designed to be immune to electrical interference with testing conducted to the following requirements (latest available standards): EN 300 328, V1.7.1; EN 61326-1 (2006); EN 301 489-1, V1.8.1; EN 301 489-17, V2.1.1.

What approvals/certifications will the Limitless™ products carry?

- FCC 15.247
- Industry Canada RSS 210
- ETSI, CE mark
- ACMA, C-TICK mark
- UL/CSA (as applicable)

Are the operating characteristics of the Limitless™ switch series the same as the MICRO SWITCH™ electromechanical switch series?

The intent is to have the same, or very close to the same, characteristics when comparing a non-wireless switch's characteristics to a wireless switch's characteristics within the same industrial switch series.
