Honeywell has expanded its Hall-effect sensor portfolio with the new SS340RT Series and SS440R Series Unipolar Hall-Effect Digital Position Sensors. As unipolar
devices, they are designed to respond to a single pole. These devices enhance our existing unipolar
Hall-effect sensor portfolio by offering the following:
1. Subminiature SOT-23 surface mount package
2. Reverse polarity protection
3. Low 3 V capability
4. Price competitive
SS340RT Series: Subminiature SOT-23 surface mount package takes up less space on the
printed circuit board; supplied on tape and reel for automated pick and place assembly, often helping to
reduce manufacturing costs; responds to North pole.
SS440R Series: Leaded flat TO-92 style package (bulk packaging, 1000 units per bag).
Future options will include ammopack (fan-fold) type tape, with straight or formed leads for automated
assembly; responds to South pole.
These sensors are:
Price competitive: Honeywell has optimized the size of the
integrated circuit, saving on manufacturing costs while still meeting customer requirements; these savings
result in lower costs to customers
Economical: Package is supplied on tape and reel (SS340RT Series),
often allowing for automated, lower-cost pick and place assembly which helps the customer reduce
manufacturing costs; low voltage 3 V capability helps reduce power consumption
Small: Small footprint takes up less space on the PC board,
typically allowing for more components on the same board
Flexible: Sinking output with open collector allows the sensor to
interface with many electrical circuits without buffering; 3 to 24 Vdc supply voltages up to 125°C [257°F]
and 3 to 12 Vdc voltage operating at 150 °C [257 °F] enhance application flexibility
Stable: Thermally balanced integrated circuit provides stable
operation over a full temperature range
Safe: Built-in reverse polarity protection provides enhanced
circuit protection
The new Hall-effect sensors are supplied in three different magnetic
sensitivities:
Highest sensitivity: SS341RT and SS441R devices offer the highest
sensitivity of the Series, with a typical operating point of 85 G at 25 °C [77 °F]
Medium sensitivity: SS343RT and SS443R offer medium sensitivity with
125 G typical at 25 °C [77 °F]
Lowest sensitivity: SS349RT and SS449R offer the lowest sensitivity,
requiring 350 G typical to operate at 25°C [77 °F]
